IH103 Chronic heart failure: assessment & management in primary care
Course summary
Nurses in the community are taking on an ever-expanding role in the care of the patient with diagnosed Heart Failure. Many are not only responsible for providing routine patient care but must also assess and make management decisions for these patients. With heart disease as the foremost cause of death in the UK, the importance of this role cannot be underestimated. This course has been designed to assist the health care provider with meeting the challenges of this remit. It can be tailored for practitioners who are based in GP practices or out in the community.

Aims / objectives
- Develop a basic understanding of the pathophysiology of heart failure
- Have grounding in the physical assessment of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
- Be familiar with treatment options reflecting NICE guidelines
- Apply these options to meet the NSF objectives for patient care and management
