Aims / objectives
- Critically discuss relevant developmental issues for taking a history and conducting a physical examination across different age groups ranging from infants to children aged up to 16.
- Critically apply the principles of communication and interviewing when taking an accurate systematic history
- Explore current best practice and provide the theoretical underpinning for a range of commonly encountered conditions in paediatric minor illnesses
- Demonstrate depth of knowledge in the assessment and management of common paediatric minor illnesses
- Critically examine the evidence base relating to common paediatric health problems and child protection
- Discuss paediatric patient management, including referral requirements for safe practice.

- History taking and communication skills of the paediatric consultation
- Record keeping
- Review of anatomy and physiology differences in children
- The febrile child
- Review of body systems related to presenting conditions in:
- HEENT
- Respiratory
- Abdomen
- Skin including infant rashes, febrile exanthems, contagious and non-contagious dermatological conditions.
